There was a noted family of this name in Aberdeen in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, and many of them witnessed charters and made donations to the church of S. Nicholas, Aberdeen. From one of the family is derived the name Cryne's Croft in Futye. The family may have had connection with Cryne in the parish of Kilbucho, Peeblesshire. Laurendus Cрyn held land in Aberbrothoc in 1303 (RAA., I, p. 278), and David Cryn appears in Aberdeen, 1317 (SCM., V, p. 12). William Cryn or Cryne appears as burgess of Aberdeen, 1398—1400 (CRA., p. 373; REA., I, p. 205), and is frequently mentionеd as a charter witness between 1400—30 (REA., I and II; CAB.; RMS., II, 156; SCM., V, p. 254). William Kryne was admitted burgess of Aberdeen, 1461 (NSCM., l, p. 17). Crynne 1449. (2) Cryne was the name of the father of Gospatric and Aldan (RMS., I, 265, reproducing a twelfth century charter). A different name from Crin.
