The Cuccovia surname comes from Macciagodena, Molise, Italy, and records in the local church date as far back as the 1400's. It roughly translates to 'crooked road'. After WWI, a group of Cuccovia's migrated from Italy to the US, and changed their name to Cokewell upon arrival. Cuccovia's are few and far between, with the majority having emigrated to the US, Australia, and Brazil. Another group of Macciagodena Cuccovias emigrated to the US after WWII, when Hitler's troops had raided the village of it's wealth and resources after the death of Mussolini. This greatly ruined the family's position within the community, and prompted them to sell their farm to some cousins before seeking a new life in the US. They entered the NYC construction industry, and helped build NY into the place it is today.
