Cudmore Surname Meaning
From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
This name came to Ireland from the west of England where it was formerly of note in Devon and Somerset. Paul Cudmore was Controller of the Pipe in 1655 and from that time there have been Cudmore families in Co. Cork. Cork, Ross and Cloyne wills and marriage licence bonds indicate that the majority of these were Protestants of standing in different parts of the county from Kinsale to Doneraile: in the latter place they had a family burial place in the churchyard. In the course of time however, Cudmores ceased to be all of that class and persuasion. At the present time the name is found mainly among the professional and commercial community in the city of Cork and, I may add, we have Catholic farmers called Cudmore in east Clare.
