COLLACE: From the old lands and barony of the same name in Perthshire. The seal of John de Cvlas is appended to a Newbattle charter of 1340 (Macdonald, 463), and John de Cullas was portioner of the lands of Menmuir in 1364 (RMS., I, 214). Andrew Colless, merchant in Aberdeen, got a charter of the barony of Kelly from Robert, Lord Marr, 1404 (Nisbet, I, p. 103). In 1451 it was charged against Jhone of Cullace of Menmur that he "wrangusly occupeis and manuris certane landis and boundis pertenynge to ye bischop and cheptur of Brechine (REB., I, 162). Thomas de Collace had a grant of half the foggage, with the vert and venison of the forest of Kilgery in 1488 (Bamff, 58). Patrick Culess in Fife is mentioned in 1517 (ALHT., V, p. 102), and Robert Cullace of Balnomone had a lease of certain lands from the Dean and Chapter of Dunkeld in 1550 (Bent. Dunk., p. 350).
