From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

CURLYON: "Cur-Lyghon in this parish [Kea] is now transnominated to Carlyon; and here, for many descents, lived the family from thence denominated Curlyghon, and who were gentlemen of considerable fame, lands, and revenues, as appeared to me from several old Latin deeds, some bearing date 6. Henry V." Hals, in D. Gilbert's Cornwall, ii. 301. The same quaint old topographer, in another place, (St. Blazey) observes: "In this parish liveth Cur-lyon, Gent., that married Hawkins, and giveth for his arms, in a field .... a bezant between two castles. Now, though the name be local, from a place in Keye parish, so called, yet, if I were admitted to judge or conjecture, I mould say this family of Cur-Lyon, by its name and arms, mere descendants of Richard Curlyon, alias King Richard I. !!" Ibid, i. 54.
