This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'at the corrie.' Such at least seems to be the origin of this well-known Scotch surname. It is introduced here simply because it looks English, and is found in one variant or another in every considerable English town. Sir Walter Scott, in his Lady of the Lake, has 'Fleet foot in the corrie,' and a footnote explains thus: 'Corrie or Cori, the hollow side of the hill where game usually lies.'
