Yonne, occurs in a 6th cent. Latin charter as Curcedon-us, the second element of which is prob. the Celtic dún. a hill. Courson, Dept. Calvados, occurs in the 13th cent. as Corçon and Courchon. Godefroy's Old French Diet, defines courçon, courchon, as 'a piece of land shorter than the others’; from French court, short] Curson appears in Holinshed's copy of the Roll of Battle Abbey.
