This surname derives from patronymic forms in d'-, referring to the Turkish name Alem, an ancient variant of the more common Alim, from alem, which in Turkish means 'friendly', probably carried by the father of the progenitor.
The surname D'Alema would seem Lucan of Matera, with a strain also in the Brindisi area.
Dalema, almost unique, is from Matera and should be due to a transcription error of the previous one.
Dalemmo, always very rare, is specific to Manduria in the Taranto area.
Alema and Alemi are practically unique.
