From the lands of Dalgarnock in Dumfriesshire. The old family of Dalgarno of that Ilk, however, were in Aberdeenshire. In 1262 William de Dalgarnoc, rector of Rathen in the diocese of St. Andrews, had a dispensation to hold the church of Aberbrothoc then held by him in commendam (Pap. Lett., I, p. 382). William de Dalgernok, preceptor of David 11, was abbot of Kelso, 1329 (REG., p. 245—246). Johannes de Dalgarnok, burgess of Aberbrothoc, 1333 (RAA., II, p. 13) was custumar there in 1359 (ER., I, p. 610). John Dalgarnet, a monk, was a charter witness in 1333 (Pap. Lett.). Johannes de Dalgarnok, burgess of Aberdeen, 1366 (REA., II, p. 61) is probably the same with the laird of Westiressyntoly in Durris (RMS., I, 444). A petition on behaIf of John de Dalgernoc, appointed abbot of S. Mary's, Kylwynyn, that he may receive benediction from any Catholic bishop was presented in 1344 (Pap. Pet., I, p. 82), and a John de Dalgernock is mentioned in 1348 as prior of Lesmahagow (SCM., V, p. 246). The goods of Adam de Dalgrarnok, an Aberdeen merchant, were plundered by the English in 1370 (Bain, IV, 158,164). William de Dalearnok, vicar of Brechin, 1372 (REB., I, 20), and another William de Dalgarnok was dominus de Fyntre, 1400 (CAB., p. 422). Alexander Dalgarno was a canon of the cathedral of Old Machar, Aberdeen, 1386 (REA., I, p. 176), John Dawgarnow was one of an inquest in Aberdeen, 1505 (Illus., III, p. 260), and William Dalgarno de eodem was retoured heir of William Dalgarno de eodem, 1603 (Retours, Aberdeen, 91). Arthur Dalgarne, a talebearer in Kinethmont, 1664 (Alford, p. 46), and John Dalgairn in Edindrack, parish of Gartly, 1688 (Moray).
