DAMMESONE: In the first half of the thirteenth century mention is made of the lands of Ylistoun formerly belonging to Alan Dammesone (Dryburgh, p. 149). John Dammesone, alderman and burgess of Jeddeworth, and John Dammesone of Over Aytone rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 197,206). Lower (under 'Damson') says"'Dame's son,' but whether the son of Dame, apperently an old Christian name, or 'filius dominae,' I know not." Weekley (p. 193) quotes Geoffrey Dammesune from the English Pipe Rolls and also renders 'dame's son.'.
