From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

Danskin, Danskine. This surname meant originally a native of Danzig (now Gdansk), and appears in Scottish record about the beginning of the seventeenth century. John Danskyne was a skinner in Dundee in 1616 (Wedd., p. 278), and Patrik Dansken was constable "landwart of Craill" in 1633 (RPC., 2. ser. V, p. 93). Henry Danskin was one of the contributors to the Delitiae poetarum Scotorum, published in Amsterdam in 1637. George Glaastanes, archbishop of St. Andrews, in a letter to King James VI refers to him as "Your Maiestie's owne poet and natiue seruant, Mr. Henry Danskene" (Pollok, II, p. 71). The surname is also found in Stirling in 1717 (Sc. Ant., VI p. 88), and there are twelve of this name in the Commissariot Record of Dunblane from 1604 onward. "Gerald Stanley," composer of the "Woodland Whispers" waltzes, was in private life George Dansken.
