Qui dapes fert. Qui cibos mensae imponit. Literally, a bearer of dainties-a sewer; in old times a principal officer in the households of kings and magnates. This was borne as a second or official surname by several distinguished persons under the Norman kings, especially by the celebrated Eudo Dapifer of Domesd. He was fourth son of Hubert de Rie, and steward of the Conqueror's household. Kelham.
