(English) One who plastered buildings or whitewashed walls.
(from the name of a female ancestor) or (from a house sign) or (from an ancestor's occupation) Daube is a “barrel stave” in German and perhaps some Jews in that trade adopted this name. For most Jews, Daube is another form for the German Taube, “dove.” One of the house signs in Frankfurt was the Taube. In the Middle Ages a popular first name for women was Taube, which in Yiddish took the form Teibel.
