The Davidsons of Roxburghshire seem to have formed a small clan in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The chief family seated at Samieston became extinct in 1670 (Stodart). Thomas Davidson (b. 1840), born in Deer, Aberdeenshire, devoted his life to the study of the language, literature, and philsuphy of Greece and Italy.
