Diminutives of David, which see. Meg Davy is recorded in Aberdeen, 1408 (CWA., p. 314). The name is found in Strageyth in 1601 (Dunblane). Thomas Dawie appears in Eglismaqhene in 1637 (Brechin), James Davie in Moshatt, parish of Carnwath, in 1658 (Lanark CR.), Jonet Davie was fined for breach of the act against "flyting and scolding" in 1669 (Corsehill, p. 88), and Edward Davie was portioner of Torbean in 1676 (Refours, Linlithgow, 242). The old family of Grimbister in Grimbister, Orkney, changed their name to Davie, the patronymic of one of the family, and Davies occupy Grimbister at the present day (Clouston, p. 35).
