In the midst of the conflict between Serbia and the Ottoman Empire (1877-1878), the Albanian population of Sandzak of Nis was compact and largely rural. It coexisted in the area with the Turkish population (part of which was of Albanian origin) and the Serbs. During the war, the Albanian population depending on the area reacted in various ways to the entry of Serbian forces into the Sandzak of Nis, resisting and / or fleeing to the surrounding mountains and to Kosovo, which was Ottoman territory. Most Albanians were expelled by Serbian forces. Dedinac is a village in the Kuršumlija municipality. So people who moved from Dedinac decided to use Dedinca as a surname so their descendants would know where they came from.
