Stephanus de Dereby was canon of Aberdeen c. 1240 (REA., I, p. 16), and Magister Roger de Derbi, precentor of Aberdeen, c. 1250 (RAA., I, p. 266), appears two years later as canon of Dunkeld (Scon, p. 74). A family of this name, probably recent incomers from England, were millers at Cluden Mill, Dumfriesshire, c. 1880.
