A Guide to Irish Names (1964) by Edward MacLysaght

This, without the prefix O, is the usual spelling. Woulfe only gives Derivin and Derwin which are rare and variants rather than synonyms of Dervan. According to Woulfe the Irish form is Ó Doirbhin.

Dervan would be Ó Doirbheáin and this is corroborated by the early anglicized form Ó Dirrevane found in a sixteenth century Fiant for the barony of Rathconrath, Co. Westmeath, adjacent to Co. Longford and not far from Co. Roscommon.‘ An earlier Fiant has O'Durvin in Co. Roscommon. The name is very rare except in east Galway and south Roscommon where Dervan, Dervin, Dervine and Derwin are all extant.
