The first Devereux is Robert d'Évreux. He was archbishop and count of Évreux, a French city. He was from a Viking lineage installed in Normandie (French region near to England). He was an uncle of William the conqueror. When William the conqueror took England the Devereux family were with him. Then the Devereux family became an important English knights familly, keeping the Wales frontier for hundred of years. Later the Devereux familly gave 3 Heire of Essex. The Devereux family was also involved in Ireland wars affairs at several periods, wich explains why we can also find Devereux in Ireland.
