The surname Diack appears for the first time in Aberdeenshire about the close of the seventeenth century, principally about the parish of Logie-Durno. Alexander Diack in Craigsley, 1781 (Aberdeen CR.). A tradition among bearers of the name is that the family came from Denmerk (Sc. N. & Q., III, p. 29). Sir Alexander Henderson Diack was senior financial commissioner of the Punjab. Mr. Francis C. Diack has published The Newton Stone and other Pictish inscriptions, Paisley, 1922, and later studies along the same lines. Said to be an Aberdeenshire form of Dick.
