This surname is derived from the name of an ancestor. No doubt Dilcock, like Wilcock, Simco: k, Sc., belongs to the personal class. It represents some early name with the suffix -cock appended (v. Cocks). It is found in Yorkshire in the 14th century, and remains there to-day. Probably it is Dilkcock (v. Dilke and Dilks), but I dare not do more than suggest it.
