Remember that there was no uniform spelling in those days and there were also regional dialects that made the pronunciation slightly different from town to town. Because of the 'k' at the end some people thought the 'x' would be better than the 's'. The name is found mostly in Flanders (Belgium) and the Southern provinces of The Netherlands, especially Limburg.
