Robert fiz Adam de Dreltone of the county of Erlneburk rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 209). Symon de Dritona held land in Berwyck before 1324 (RAA., I, p. 220). Robertus de Drilton, 1329 (ER., I, p. 211). Dirleton was an early possession of the family of Vaus who brought the place name from England.
