From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
= Dugan, q.v.
Ó Dubhchon Originally a Corca Laoidhe sept, it settled later in north Tipperary and Offaly. SIF 57
As might be expected confusion arises with these two names. Doughan (Ó Dubhchon in Irish), though it originated as a Corca laoidhe sept in Co. Cork, belongs in modern times to north Tipperary and the adjacent areas of Co. Offaly. As Doghon and O'Doghon it is listed as one of the more numerous names in the baronies of Eliogarty and Ikerrin in the “census” of 1659. It has spread also into Co. Clare where, however, it is spelt Doohan. Doohan is primarily a Tirconnell name (Ó Duacháin in Irish).
