User-submitted Reference
From the name of a small bee that usually burrows in the ground and can be responsible for painful stings. In English it is called spring flower bee and in German gemeine or frulings-pelzbiene. In Romanian these bees are also called gypsy bees, furisori or draghici. In Latin they are called Anthophora Plumipes (A.P.) and look much more like wasps, 14-15 mm in length, longer than a regular bee, which are 12-14 mm. They are spread all across Europe, nesting in argyle soils, porous rocks, walls, or barns. They visit various types of plants and are mostly found in gardens and parks, on flowers. Male bees particularly visit flowers called Aubrieta Deltoidea, or in German blue pillow.
