Duffield is a very old clerical name in this county. It was borne by the rectors of Blofield and Crimplesham in 1369 and 1397 and by the official of the archdeacon of Sudbury in 1455, etc. (Bl.). At the beginning of the 17th century, there was a family of Duffield in Attleborough (Bl.). The name occurred in Lincolnshire in the 13th century (H. R.). There are parishes and townships thus called in Derbyshire and in the East Riding of Yorkshire.
