From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
Of local origin from the town of Dundee in Angus. Willelmus de Dunde witnessed a charter by Willelmus filius Hawoc, burgess of Perth, c. 1245 (Inchaffray, p. 63). He also appears as witness in a Scone charter in the reign of Alexander II (Scon, p. 55). Robertus de Dunde, witness in a charter by Malise, earl of Stratherne, 1287 (Inchaffray, p. 111). Radulph de Dunde was freed from obligation to Walter, dominus de Venall, burgess of Aberdeen, in 1292 (Panmure, II, p. 151). Michael of Dundee, parson of Stubbehoke (Stobo), Rauf de Dunde of Forfarshire, and Master William of Dundee, parson of Alnith (Alyth), rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 199,211, 212), and Master Thomas de Dundee was appointed bishop of Ross in 1297 (ibid., p. 240). Magister Johannes de Dunde was a witness in Perth in 1458, and Magister Johannes de Dunde was vicar pensioner of Barre in 1489 (RAA., II, p. 103,261). The surname seems to have died out early.
