From the lands or barony of Dunoon in Argyllshire. Walter de Dunoun witnessed a confirmation charter of the church of Maleuille to Dunfermline Abbey, 1255 (RD., 206). Alexander Dunon appears in 1265 as holding the lands of Neuyd now Rosneath, Dumbartonshire (ER., I, p. 30). As Alexander de Dunhon he served on an inquest at Dumbarton, 1271 (RMP., p. 191), and c. 1285 he granted a charter of three-quarters of a carucate of Akencloy Nethe." which in Scots is called Arachor" (HMC., 2. Rep., App., p. 166). Arthur de Dunnon witnessed a charter by James, steward of Scotland, 1294 (RMP., p. 96), and in 1296 as Arthur de Donon of Ayrshire he rendered homage. His seal is charged with a fesse chequy of 3 tracts, charges in chief obliterated, supported by two lions, S' Arthuri de Dvnnovin (Bain, II, p. 208,558). Huwe de Dunom, persone of the church of Lyberton in Lanarkshire, also rendered homage in same year (ibid., p. 208). John Dunune was notary public, 1442 (Panmure, II, 235). Dunnone 1492, Dunnvne 1547.
