Of local origin from the village of Durno (Dournach 1257) in the parish of Chapel of Garioch, Aberdeenshire. Johannes de Dovrnach in the parish of Fyvy was excommunicated in 1382 (REA., I, p. 166). George Durno was schoolmaster at Fintray, 1761 (Aberdeen CR.), James Durno (1751—1807), a prominent British diplomat, was of Aberdeenshire birth, and Leslie Durno from Fyvie served in the first Great War (Turriff).
