Eddon Surname Definition:
This surname is derived from the name of an ancestor. 'the son of Ede,' from diminutive Edon; v. Eade. If this be not satisfactory there is only one other solution, viz. Idonia. If this were sometimes Edonia we might expect the form Edon as well as Iddon, which we know to represent Idonia.

Eddon Surname Meaning
From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
Since writing the above I have found an instance:
Edonia Tumour, Agnes uxor, 1379: Poll Tax of Yorkshire.
Unfortunately this appears to be a masculine name.
Nicholas fil. Edon, Norfolk, 1273. Hundred Rolls.
Roger fil. Edon, Norfolk, ibid.
Nel fil. Edine, Oxfordshire, ibid.
Henry Edon, Oxfordshire, ibid.
Johan Mountenay et Edden sa femme, 1379: Poll Tax of Yorkshire.
Robertus Busby, et Eden uxor ejus, Smyth, 1379: ibid.
Johannes Slipar, et Edan uxor ejus, 1379: ibid.
Looking at all these instances carefully, I suspect that they are all diminutives of the then popular girl's name Ede.
1660. Married — Henrie Sadde and Parnell Eaden: St. James, Clerkenwell.
Though the pedigree is not traced higher than the year 1413, there is no reason to doubt that the name is local and derived from either Castle Eden or Little Eden in the county of Durham, where, as Mr. Courthope asserts, the family were resident for several generations prior to the close of the XIV. cent.
