There was a family of this name in Dundee in the fifteenth century. Thomas Elge was witness there in 1412 (HP., II, p. 152), and James Elge, burgess there, 1427 (Panmure, II, 195). In 1443 there is mention of "terris campestribus rudis burgalibus que sunt Nycholaii Elge filii quondam Thomas Elge" in Dundee (REB., I, 93). Patrick Elge alias Eleis, burgess of Montrois, 1596 (Retours, Perth, 1083). Janet Eldge is in record in Dunkeld, 1685 (DPD., I, p. 488), and James Ealdge in Fordie, 1693, and two more of the name are in Dunkeld Commissariot Record.
