= Elie (q.v.) + the English diminutive suff. -kin. Elekin.—Hand. Rolls.
(English) Descendant of little Elie, a pet form of Elias (Jehovah is my God).
The derivation in English Surn. i. 166, is probably incorrect. Mr. Ferguson has the following observations. "Allkins and Elkin may possibly mean ' Englishman.' So common was Alla or Ella as an early Saxon name, that the Northern Scalds familiarly termed Englishmen in general Ello-Kyn, the race of Ella. Wheaton's Hist, of the Northmen. Allkins and Elkin may, however, simply be diminutives of Alla or Ella."
