From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

A not uncommon surname in Aberdeenshire and part of Banffshire, of local origin from one or more of the half dozen small places of the name in the former county. Alexander Elrick was concerned in an action about the ownership of com in 1510 (RSCA., I, p. 40), John and Andrew Elrick are mentioned in the same record in 1574 (1, p. 194,210), another John Elrik was witness in an Aberdeen witch trial in 1597 (SCM., I, p. 129), Alexander Elrick was sometime in Wester Craigie 1791 (CRA.), and another Alexander Elrick, farmer in Invernettie, was retoured heir to his father in 1803. Isabella Elrick in Banchory-Devenick died in 1873. John Bell Elrick of Cruden was killed in the first Great War (Turriff), and three brothers of the name also from Cruden served in the same war.
