This surname is derived from the name of an ancestor. 'the son of Eve,' diminutive Evot or Evet. This diminutive was especially popular in Yorkshire and Durham. William de Kyrkby (a.d. 1391) bequeathed articles to 'Evoe uxori Johannis Parvyng.' Further on in his will he speaks of the aforementioned 'Evotam' (Test Ebor.).
