EYSTEINN: Eysteinn, i.e. Stein of the Islands, because he lived in the Hebrides. He is the Steinn of lolendingabok, c. 12, and the Oistin mac Amlaiph regis Nordmannorun of AU. 874, and was killed in the Hebrides 874 (875, ES., I, p. 350. See also p. 304). The name has nothing to do with Huisdean or Uisdeann, which see. Dun Eisteann near the Butt of Lewis may have derived its name from him.
