Fadino Surname Meaning

User-submitted Reference

This surname derives from hypocoristic forms of the dialect word fada, meaning 'fairy', which also gave rise to the name Fadino of which there is an example in a deed of sale of 1352 in Bergamo where the buyer is a certain Giovanni fu Fadino de Molonio di borgo Santo Stefano.

It could also derive from the apheresis of names such as Bonfadinus, an altered form of Bonfantinus.

The surname Fadini has a Lombard stock, especially in the provinces of Mantua, Cremona, Brescia and Bergamo, with maximum concentration in the near Verona area, and a strain in the Udine area.

Fadin, very rare, seems to belong to the Paduan.

Fadino, almost unique, is probably due to mistakes in transcribing the previous ones.
