(French-Latin) the French Ferbras = Iron Arm [French fer, Latin ferr-um, iron + French bras, Latin brachi-um, the arm]
FIREBRACE: The extinct baronet family, whose pedigree ascends only to the XVII. cent., seem to have had a tradition of a Norman origin (Burke's Ext. Barts.), and the name is said to signify fier-bras, "bold or stout arm," like our indigenous Armstrong and Strong i' th' arm. The H.R. form, Ferbras, is suggestive of "Iron-arm."
Radulphus Fierebrache of Normandy, 1198 (Magni Rotuli Scaccarii Normanniae). Henry Ferebraz occurs in England c. 1272 (RI1). The Baronets Firebrace were of this family.
