It is a surname which has its roots in the Ifa worship of the ancient Yoruba people. It could mean that Ifa oracle has spared the family or forgiven them. It could also mean that Ifa oracle has saved the family from dangers or evil. Essentially, these families are traditionally adherent of Ifa worship.
The root word would be ifajimi, which has been anglicised over the centuries to Fajimi. Over time among the Yorubas, most of these families convert to Christianity and majority keep their ancestral names of Fajimi for cultural identity while few converts change their to remove or distant themselves from the "IFA" roots of the names. Their names change to become names like Oluwajimi or Jesujimi.
These changes depend on their religious leaning of these adherents whether Orthodox, Evangelical, Pentecostal or New Age. Yorubas will understand that names such as Oluwajimi or Jesujimi is a modernised form of the names, Fajimi or Ifajimi.
