Falcon Surname Meaning
From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
This surname is derived from a nickname. 'the falcon.' It would be a capital sobriquet for a pursuivant.
Richard Faucon, Somerset, 1 Edward III: Kirby's Quest.
It is possible the name may be baptismal; v. Fulchon.
(Anglo-French-Latin) a nickname or sign- name from the bird [Middle English Old French fau(l)con, Low Latin falco, -onis]
Derives from another Spanish word "halcon" - falcon.
The latin adjectives "falco," "-onis" refer to persons with twisted fingers or toes. It refers to the falcon which has claws. The word "falcon" could refer to a place that has many of these birds.
Various lines with name in the Peninsula but not necessarily related.
1. The bird, from some fancied resemblance. 2. A trader's sign. The ' falcon and fetterlock ' was a favourite badge of the house of York.
Although the number of households is relatively small, the distribution of Falcon families in Louisiana today may be representative of descendants of Canary Islanders (Isleños) brought in by the Spanish government to settle along the upper Lafourche in 1779.* With the Falcons came the Truxillos, Navarros, Hidalgos, Cavalleros, and other Isleño families, some of whose descendants still reside along the upper Lafourche in Ascension Parish.
Two Falcon families were among the first group of Canary Islanders to be sent to the Lafourche to bolster the newly founded Spanish post of Valenzuela between present Plattenville and Donaldsonville. The family heads may well have been brothers, Gaspar and Cristobal Falcón, both in their twenties and both married to women surnamed Denis (Gaspar to María Francisca, Cristóbal to Josefa).
Each of the Falcon families was granted land of three arpents frontage on the right bank of the Lafourche near Donaldsonville, whereas most of their compatriots were settled on the left bank closer to Valenzuela.
Records indicate that the second generation of Falcon males took Isleño wives and reared sizable families on the upper Lafourche near their fathers' homesteads. Of Cristóbal's three sons, two were known to have married-Miguel to Francisca Domínguez in 1803, Antonio Domingo to María Domínguez in 1808; of Gaspar's four sons at least three married-Juan to María Pereira in 1802, Miguel to Ana Díaz in 1809, and Herminguillo to Sebastiana Navarro in 1813.
With the third generation, however, marriages between Isleños and French occurred with increasing frequency and given names were often Gallicized, indicating conversion of Canary Islanders from Spanish to the prevailing language and lifeways of the area.
Most Falcon families remained small farmers and laborers in the upper Lafourche (Ascension and Assumption parishes) for most of the 1800s.
However, just prior to the Civil War a grandson of Antonio Domingo, Domingo III (m. ca. 1860 Augustine Hidalgo), moved into Lafourche Parish near Thibodeauxville; later in the century other Falcons (e.g., Joseph-Adam and wife Seraphine Mastrejean) made the same move, and the few Falcon households currently in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes may be their descendants.
A more significant migration out of the upper Lafourche was made by a son of Antonio Domingo Joseph Falcon of Donaldsonville, with his wife Mane Falcon, who ca 1870 settled in the prairies near Church Point, Acadia Parish.
A later move took him and his family farther south into the Rayne area, where his sons, Léonard (m 1899 Uranie Credeur) and Sosthene (m. 1887 Josephine Trahan), established farms in the 1880s and 1890s. Another Joseph Falcon and wife Dolores Rodriguez (lineage uncertain) by the 1870s also settled near Rayne10 The present-day cluster of Falcon households in the Rayne-Lafayette area may descend from those families. Probably after 1900 several Falcons of that district made their way via the railroad towns across Calcasieu Parish into southeastern Texas. The large number of Falcons in Houston, however, probably stems from immigration from Mexico, where the surname is frequent, as it is in many Latin American countries and in Spain.
Opportunities offered by industry along the lower Mississippi River likely have attracted many Falcon families from the Lafourche area, accounting for the relatively large numbers of households in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Today only 11 percent of the state's Falcon families still reside in their traditional homeland of the upper Lafourche
Falcon: This is still an inn sign. The bird was variously described from the sign as a Kite and a Hawk, a Sparrow-hawk or Sparke, and a Glede. This last name is found in Gledhill and Gledstone.

Falcón
Etymology:
Bird of the falconidae family, of which there are several species, that flies with a rapid flapping of wings followed by brief moments when it is flat. (RAG, Dicionario da Real Academia Galega)
Falcón ancestry comes from Diego Falcón (Falcon). This being, an important militia captain, and in addition to being the royal mayor of Teror, Gran Canaria, Spain.According to data obtained, it has been determined that in the province of Las Palmas, such as the islands of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, those with these surnames are very numerous. That is why they establish that this province has the largest population with that surname. Which, today, has become an important and common lineage in the Spanish colony. The well-known Diego Falcón, was born in 1508 in Montehermoso, located specifically in the province of Cáceres. He himself was married to María Domínguez with whom he had a daughter named Leonor Falcón. Later, her daughter married Captain Juan Lorenzo Castellano in Teror, with whom she conceived three children. Due to the custom of those times, their children managed to give continuity to the maternal surname.

In the Spanish Peninsula this surname does not have a common origin, there are different lineages without relationship between them.
The main trunk of this family in the Canary Islands is made up of Diego Falcón or Halcón and María Domínguez, of which some of their descendants also carried the surname Domínguez.
Diego Falcón was a native of Montehermoso (Cáceres), born about 1508, verifying that in the 1530s he was a neighbor of Gran Canaria. He married Marina Domínguez, establishing residence in Teror. Diego Falcón, held the positions of captain and royal mayor of the town.
We write about Marina Domínguez's probable ancestry at http://geneacanaria.blogspot.com.es/2013/04/probable-ascendencia-de-marina.html
Leonor, daughter of the above, born in 1542 was the transmitter of the surname, married Juan Lorenzo Castellano and, at least, they had six children.
Sons of the above were Diego Falcón, who forms the branch of Telde, and Catalina (gave its name to the Cuesta de Falcón in Teror) married to Gaspar Hernández, in Las Palmas. In Guía, Captain Pedro González Falcón, formed the House of this surname, marrying Juana Ariñez Merino there in 1663.
From early on, part of this lineage repeatedly related to the island nobility: Bethencourt, Llarena, Del Castillo-Olivares, León, Quintana, Massieu ...
In Agüimes, at the beginning of the colonization, lived María Falcón Caballero, a wealthy woman of Basque origin, trunk of the Caballero family of that area and, minority from some Falcón descended from it. It is unknown if he had any connection with Diego Falcón.
Currently in the Canary Islands, 11,213 people with this surname reside. Mainly in the province of Las Palmas (Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote): 92% and, the rest, 8% in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Tenerife, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma).

Origin of the Falcón surname
As we already mentioned, the meaning of the surname Falcón has different origins, which do not constitute the same extirpation or family.
By the 16th century in Gran Canaria, the first lineage emerged from the union of Diego Falcón and Marina Domínguez. Even though, in 1507 there is evidence of baptisms in the Parroquia del Sagrario Catedral de Canarias, of the children of Pedro Fernández Halcón and his wife Beatriz Fernández. As well as, Pedro López and Isabel Falcón in the year 1510 and Pedro Falcón with Beatriz Muñoz in the year 1516.
On the other hand, it is known that Pedro Falcón's first marriage was with Isabel Suarez. With the aforementioned, he had offspring, but in the second marriage nothing is known yet. In relation to the well-known Sebastián Falcón Rodríguez, he himself, when he became the widow of his first wife, married Ana Felipe.
-Regarding the geographical location that helps us to know the migrations across the island and the time:
As a first aspect, these branches belonging to a common lineage start from the town of Teror, where its founders Diego Falcón and Marina Domínguez settle in the 16th century, and converge in the town of Moya between the 18th and 19th centuries.
The entrances to the town of Moya are produced by Firgas, Guía and Teror. These start them (box from left to right):
1. By Firgas: Antonio GARCÍA Guerra, a native of the town of Firgas, son of Salvador García Falcón and María Guerra González, neighbors of Barranquera (Firgas), married to the Moyen Feliciana Mª Quintana DE Almeida (Moya, 1716-1762), daughter of Antonio de Almeida and Ana Mª Quintana Mateo.
2. By Guide: Antonia FALCÓN Guerra (Guide 1810-Moya 1896), daughter of Manuel Falcón Guerra and Antonia Díaz Quintana from Guia, married to Francisco MELIÁN DE VEGA (Moya 1805-ant. 1893), son of Blas Melián de Ortega Miranda and Mª del Pino de Vega Cerpa. The couple had their residence in the Palmito district, with important possessions on the Cross: house, land, porch, water and pond.
3. For Teror: Miguel Antonio FALCÓN Arencibia (Teror 1790) [v], son of Miguel Falcón Guerra and Mª Josefa Arenciba Suárez, who married in the hermitage of S. Bartolomé de Fontanales with Mª RITA BENÍTEZ Marrero, daughter of José Antonio Benítez Marrero de Almeida and Ángela Guerra.

Coat of arms of the Falcón family name
When describing the meaning of the Falcón surname, the shield is an important part of their history, the Asturias present in the field of 'gules' ,a sailboat armed in gold. It contains a cross located in the main mast, as well as a saw in the bow. With which, a chain that is responsible for holding the gold towers is broken. These towers are located in the sea on the rocks.
In Santander the shield is described in the field of sinople with a natural castle. It has an open window over the door through which a lady is displayed. Also, behind her is a maiden, on top of a spear that comes out of the hawk's homage.
