Richard Femiarius was juror on inquest at Peebles, 1262 (APS., I, p. 101 red; Peebles, 2). Alan Fermour witnessed instrument signed at St. Andrews, 1391 (Wemyss, II, 39). The land of Andrew Fermour in Perth is mentioned, 1458 (RAA., II, 114), and in the following year William Fermore, presbyter, is in record (ibid., 129). Wilms Fermoir, notary public in Kirkwall, 1580 (OSR., I, p. 199). William Fermour, burgess of Crail, 1619, may be the William Fermor who was active as a notary in Shetland in 1602—03, "when he appears to have been intruded into the office of Fowde i.e. sheriff of Dunrossness, a post never held, except under force, by any one but a resident native" (Goudie, p. 213).
