FASSINGTON: (Misspelled Faffington in a couple of entries.) William de Fasingtone of Edinburghshire rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 201). William de Faffyngton had a grant in 1363 of the lands of Balmady in Fern from Margaret de Abirnythy, countess of Angus (RMS., I, 141), and Margaret de Faifyngton, wife of Patrick de Inverpefre is in record in 1369 (ibid., 321). William de Fassynton is in record in 1406 (RPSA., p. 9), and Richard Fassyntone (Fassintoun on his seal) was one of the bailies of the Canongate of the Monastery of Holyrood of Edinburgh, 1489 (Macdonald, 906). Perhaps from a place of the name in England.
