User-submitted Reference

The Fatangare or Phatangare sirname was originally changed in Shivaji Maharaja's time when Mawala in Shivaji Maharaja's military was from the Pathar area, so they were called Pathare, then the worked as Tophkhana/mortar, which is usually used with gunpowder and makes a noise. so people started to called them 'phat phat', then as time lapsed all those Pathari called Phatare and then they all decided to change their surname to Phatangare (phat - angre). Phatangare are Kunbi (farmers) but they changed themselves to Maratha as the become warriors. some Phatangare also changed their business as their business changed their caste also change, so Fatangare are also found in Dhangar and even found among Muslim, as in the Aurangajeb era they changed their religion. Fatangare can also found in other castes too.

Most of the Fatangare usually found in Maharashta, specifically at Sarole Pathar, Tal. Sangamner, Dist. Ahmednagar. They are handsome; average height is 165 to 170cm, fair in color. They have a good reputation by earning a good education. 98% of literacy. Many of them are found in the farming field and also the teaching field. They pray to the Hindu gods, but the also visit Yeduaai near Narayangaon (pune District). So probablyy the come from Narayangaon or Junner Area to Sarole Pathar.

Thus Fatangares are warriors, farmers and very hard-wording people. As they are basically Kunbi, then changed to Maratha and again they are becoming Kunbi as the Government of Maharashtra put Kunbi caste to OBC.
