FAULDS: There are places of this name in the shires of Ayr, Renfrew, Lanark, and Perth, and there were lands of East and West Faulds in the lordship of Dudop or Dudhope near Dundee. John of Fawls of Leith imported salmon into London in 1438 (Bain, IV, 1110). Arthur Fauldis held land in Glasgow, 1536 (LCD,, p. 98), and Archibald Faullis was merchant burgess there, 1642 (Inquis., 2771). James Faullis in Blacklaw appears in 1666, and Robert Fals, charged with carrying of baggage in 1672, appears again in 1674 as Faules and Fauls (Corsehill, p. 86,105, 113). Robert Fauls was master of a family in the parish of Buittle, 1684 (RPC., 3. ser. IX, p. 570). Cf, Foulds.
