From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

FAWSYDE: Of territorial origin from the lands of Fawsyde in East Lothian. Aedmundus de Fajeside witnessed the grant of Tranent church to Holyrood Abbey by Thor filius Swani c. 1150 (LSC., p. 11). Alan de Fausyde witnessed a grant by Peter de Grame to the Hospital of Soltre before 1238 (Soltre, p. 11), and David de Fauside attested the grant of the lands of Swaynnystoun to the same house before 1238 (ibid., p. 24). William de Fauside was witness to a charter of a carucate of land in Langholme to Herbert Maxwell c. 1270 (RHM., I, p. 7; Pollok, I, p. 125) William de Faussyde and Nicol Fausy of Roxburghshire, Rogier de Faussyde of Dumfriesshire, Robert del Fausyde of Edinburghshire, rendered homage, 1296. The seal of Nicol shows a tree of four thick branches and S' Nichol d' Fawsyde (Bain, II, p. 198—200,203, 531). Robert de Faweside was juror on forfeited lands in Lothian, 1312 (ibid., III, 245), and Roger de Favsyde received payment for his expenses on business to England (ER., I, p. 287). By the middle of the fourteenth century the Fawsydes had extended beyond the Firth of Forth. Falsyde or Fawsyde, described as of that Ilk, held the land of Balmaquien, parish of Marykirk, from at least 1329 to 1371 (Peter, p. 93). William de Favside, burgess of Edinburgh, 1392 (Egidii, p. 28), and John de Fawside, bailie there, 1425 (RMS., II, 24). James Fasyde was tenant on lands of Abbey of Kelso, 1567 (Kelso, p. 523).
