(English or A.-Scand.) belonging to Featherstone = Feader’s, Feaðer's or FEoðER’s Stone (Castle, or perh. Boundary- Mark) [Old English stán = Old Norse steinn] The Staffs Featherstone was Feoðer(e)- stan in the 10th cent. The Yorks parish occurs as Fetherstan in the 14th cent.

Feader or Feaðer (cp. Old English fæder = Old Norse faðir, ‘father’) was the name of a retainer of Harðaknut who was murdered at Worcester in 1041.
