William de Federeth was constable of Roxburgh in 1262 (Melros, 294), and William de Fedreth, portioner of Duffhus in 1286 granted four davochs in Strathnavyr to Sir Reginald de Chene (REM., p. 341). William le Fiz William de Federeu of the county of Elgyn in Morref rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 214), and c. 1300 granted a letter in favor of the Abbey of Deer (CAB., p. 189). Magnus of Fetherith was one of those who recommended the marriage of the son of Edward I and the Maid of Norway in 1290 (APS., I, p. 85). William Fedrey or Feddereffe of that Ilk granted the fourth part of Kathness to Ranak. Chene, and King David confirmed the grant (RMS., I, App. II, 1317). The de Federeths appear to have ended in an heiress Helen Fedderesse, in the time of David 11 (RMS., I, App. II, 1283). The family early intermarried with the Cheynes.
