Lowrens Fettas witnessed an instrument of resignation in Brechin, 1446 (REB., I, 109). Johnne Fettais was summoned personally in judgment in 1519, and in 1521 as John Fettas he was in amerciament of court for non comparans (SCBF., p. 153,218). Alexander Fettes is in Bredfutts gairdin, 1597, and Bessie Fettous in Brechin, 1635 (Brechin). Alexander and Andrew Fettes appear in Aberdeenshire, 1603 (RSCA., II, p. 16,111). William Fettes, grandfather of the founder of Fettes College, Edinburgh, was a native of Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire. Fettes or Fiddes was a surname in the Cabrach in seventeenth century.
