This family comes from a knight of Goda origin named Guesto Ansur. He was born at Lafões district, on the times of King of Asturias, Maugerato, who reigned between 783 and 788 a.C.

This knight released some maidens who were led by the Moors for payment of annual tribute of 100 noble maidens, destined to the king of Cordoba as vassal agreement made with Maugerato.The release of the maidens took place in a fig orchard, also said "figueiral" or "figueiredo" where the liberator, broken weapons, poured himself a fig branch in the manner of mace. This event led to the site passes to be known as "Figueiredo das Donas", current parish in the Vouzela council.Guesto Ansur, whose name sometimes appears also spelled Goesto Ansures fell in love with one of the freed and both come from the Figueiredos.Soeiro Martins de Figueiredo is the first of its name, having lived in the reigns of Alfonso II of Portugal, Sancho II of Portugal and Afonso III of Portugal, and, around 1260, donated to the Monastery of Santa Cruz de Coimbra certain farms for birthdays.
