From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

FINDARG: Of territorial origin from the old barony of the name in Aberdeenshire. Philip de Phendarg or Fedarg was present at a perambulation of the lands of Tarways (Tarves) in 1236 (Illus., I, p. 3), and as Philip de Feodarg had a grant of the lands of Balcormoch, c. 1242—1249 (SHSM., IV, p. 318). He seems to have been a man of Importance in his day and is a frequent charter witness. From the abbot of Arnbroath he received, c. 1250, a charter "terram in territorio de Taruays que vocatur Achathnaneue" (RAA., I, p. 195). Either he or his son seems to have dropped "de Fedarg" and assumed "de Melgedrum" (Meldrum). There is mention in 1462 of the "baronry of Fyndyhark quhilk is now callit Meldrum," which formerly belonged to "the lard that then was callyt Philip de Findark" (RAA., II, 123).
