FINDLUGAN: S. Columba one time while staying in Hinba excommunicated some persecutors of churches, one of whom attacked the saint. Findlugan came between and received the thrust of the spear without being in the slightest degree injured (Adamnan, V. C., II, 24) This Findlugan or Finnloga was a disciple and brother of S. Fintan of Dun blesci, county Limerick. He is commemorated in the name of Loch Finlagan, Islay, in which are the isle with the ruins of a chapel of S. Finlagan built by John of Islay, Lord of the Isles (d. 1386). See Maclinlagan.
